The story of Uzziah in 2 Chronicles 26 is rich with application for Christians. Uzziah was blessed when he feared and sought the Lord — and we see that God wants to bless us too, though not necessarily in the physical successes that Uzziah saw.
But in Uzziah’s success, he grew proud, which is always a danger for us as well. His pride led him to enter the temple to offer incense, which he was not permitted to do. God struck him with leprosy for his sin.
Do we honor God as He demands? Leviticus 10:3 reminds us of God’s instructions: “Among those who draw near to me, I will be regarded as holy.”
Finally, Uzziah received no honor from God for his choices. Do we seek the honor of God? Is His esteem, glory, and honor what we are seeking? Multiple New Testament passages show us that seeking the honor of God is an important motivation for any Christian.
