We continue our exploration of “one another” principles in Philippians in this lesson. In the last lesson, we saw the need to be Unified Workers, Humble Servants, and Affectionate Brethren. In chapter 3, we see in Paul’s example how we should be Striving Disciples. This is the attitude of seeking the Lord and His gospel with everything we’ve got, desiring above all else to live out His death in our lives. Paul doesn’t think that he has “arrived” or is yet perfect in Christ, and this humility is key for us in getting along with one another.

With those four principles in place, we see the theme of the mind in the book of Philippians: Paul’s mind towards the Philippians (Philippians 1:7), not having a mind set on earthly things (Philippians 3:19), having the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5), etc. And that’s the solution for Euodia and Syntyche in 4:2 — they need to have the same mind.

Two final observations: we’ll still have conflict with each other, as Paul and Barnabas show us in Acts 15:36-40. Second, we may be called to help Christians reconcile, as Syzygus is called to do in Philippians 4:3.
